Our brief was to design a complete drainage system for a site situated in Pentraeth, Anglesey in North Wales. The site was the perfect setting for a stunning new 5-bedroom home to be built, which would favour the stunning local views of the surrounding landscape.
Lateral Design Studio was commissioned by acclaimed architectural design practice, Dobson Owen, to create a level threshold drainage system for this striking, yet exposed, project. The challenge was to envisage and construct a complete drainage system, which would work for the entire building. Our task was complicated by the fact that all access points for the house were level with internal and external paving, the exterior of which was an incredible 49LM long.
The property also included 24Lm of level, threshold, glazed doors, full story height windows, 8 corners, 4 built in rain water down pipes with integrated silt boxes and a major change in ground level. It was imperative that all these requirements be integrated into one single Aqualevel system. This single system had to collect, hold, and then redirect a potentially high volume of water safely and efficiently, due to the exposed position of the building. Whilst the design had to be functional, aesthetic considerations were also of paramount importance. And this is exactly the kind of challenge that Lateral Design Studio thrives on!
