Features & Benefits
- Efficient Water Management
- Safety & Accessibility
- Easy Maintenance
- Sleek & Minimalistic Design
- Versatility
- Visual Continuity
Our threshold drainage effectively manages water flow, diverting it away from critical areas such as doorways, entrances, and other vulnerable points. By preventing water ingress, it helps maintain the integrity of structures and protects against potential damage caused by water accumulation. A range of connectivity accessories are available to connect spigot outlets to Ø110mm drain systems.
The threshold drainage system eliminates the presence of hazardous water pooling, ensuring safe passage for pedestrians and reducing the risk of slip and fall accidents. It offers a level surface adjacent to door thresholds, making it wheelchair-friendly and compliant with accessibility standards.
The design of our threshold drainage system facilitates easy maintenance. Debris and contaminants can be easily removed from the surface, preventing clogging and ensuring the system's efficient functioning. This saves time and reduces the need for frequent maintenance interventions.
With its ability to seamlessly blend into surrounding hardscape and landscape elements, our threshold drainage contributes to the overall coherence of your application. It can be integrated into gardens, pathways, and outdoor living spaces without detracting from the natural beauty of the environment.
Our threshold drain grates can be customised to suit various architectural styles and design preferences. With a wide range of materials, finishes, colours, and grate options available, our threshold systems seamlessly integrate into different environments, from traditional to contemporary.
By effectively hiding drainage elements, by the use of our grate styles, materials and colour options, our threshold drain offering ensures visual continuity and uninterrupted aesthetics. Threshold Drainage Misconceptions
Many threshold drains are promoted as universal solutions for all types of door thresholds, but this portrayal is misleading. While marketed as suitable for both stepped and level thresholds, these standard channel drains fall short in effectively managing water drainage, especially for modern door systems with weep holes.
Claims suggesting the suitability of standard channel drains for flush level access requirements are misleading and fail to acknowledge the complexities of drainage needs in relation to building structure. Understanding the limitations of standard drains and opting for specialised dual-flow drainage systems like Aqualevel is crucial for effective water management and preventing structural damage.
Limitations of Standard Channel Drains
Standard channel drains are designed primarily for stepped door thresholds, where the drain cover sits below the threshold level. However, they prove ineffective for capturing water from modern door systems equipped with weep holes intended to allow water to exit. This limitation necessitates the use of a dual-flow drain system like the Aqualevel, which effectively encapsulates the door and drain, ensuring proper drainage without compromising building integrity.
Comprehensive Water Management
The Aqualevel system not only captures water from adjacent paved surfaces but also effectively handles water exiting from door threshold weep holes. Additionally, integration with rainwater pipes enables safe redirection of water away from the building, mitigating the risk of structural water damage.
Misconceptions Regarding Compliance
There’s a misconception that standard drains are compliant with Part M of Building Regulations, which primarily addresses wheelchair access but overlooks specific drainage requirements for door thresholds. This misconception stems from the belief that a 10mm drain slot meets regulatory standards, despite its inefficacy in collecting water from the door threshold itself.
Compatibility Issues and Outdated Methods
It’s essential to recognise that threshold drains are only suitable for stepped threshold details to avoid complications with DPC detailing. Outdated drainage methods intended for flush level thresholds, such as French drains or slot drains, are incompatible with modern metal door profiles and weep hole drainage systems, leading to potential failure.
